About the Bypath

Bypath [bī-ˌpath] : An indirect route

Mission

The mission of this site is to help you access the information you need to manage your histamine intolerance and mast cell activation. Because histamine impacts multiple parts of the body, your symptoms, your experience, and your journey may not be the same as someone else’s.

This site is a consolidation of all the disparate information you will find on the web, summarized in one place so that you can find what works best for you. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for HIT and MCAS and you may find that your journey brings you down an indirect route, but trust that you will feel better and keep searching until you find what works for you.
About Me

3 years ago, I was sitting in my doctor’s office when I first heard about the terms “histamine intolerance” and “mast cell activation syndrome”. I’ve always had a number of seemingly unrelated issues from hyper-sensitive skin to allergies and headaches but I had never, for a moment, thought they might be interrelated. My doctor informed me that I likely had MCAS (or HIT, possibly both) and that it was a very common condition that impacted 1 in 14 people. Why had I never heard of these conditions? I went home and googled all my symptoms (this time together) and found scant, disparate information, leaving me more confused. So I decided to build this site for people like me …and you… to learn more about these seemingly widespread but little-known conditions.

This site is a consolidation of everything I have learned, with support and information from experts on how to manage HIT and MCAS so you can live a better life. In the past, I always treated the symptoms of my conditions (18 doctors and countless migraine medication for headaches, 2 years of allergy shots for rhinitis and sensitive skin, antibiotics for gut health and IC), and most of the time, my issues were never resolved and eventually subsided on their own, only to reappear a few months later. I also had the added challenge of becoming dependent on antihistamines (which I believe has unknowingly happened to many people) so I decided to completely stop prescription medication or over-the-counter antihistamines and focus on a natural protocol. I still have flare-ups (mostly during allergy season) and headaches but I am significantly better than when I started my journey and most importantly, I know what I’m dealing with so I have learned to identify my triggers. My hope is that this site can help some of you identify the best protocol, understand your triggers, or find a good doctor or nutritionist.
